Azar in Brief: Swipe-Style Video Matching
Azar launched in 2014 as a mobile-only random video chat app. It gained massive popularity, particularly in Asian markets, by offering real-time translation features and a gem-based virtual currency system. Users connect globally through video calls with automatic language translation.
However, Azar's monetization has become increasingly aggressive. The gems system encourages constant spending on virtual gifts, premium features, and extended chat time. Phone verification exposes personal data, and the app-only format limits desktop users. Many users spend $20-50+/month on gems without realizing how quickly costs add up.
Why Gems and Phone Numbers Put Some People Off
Problem #1: Phone Verification Required
Azar requires your phone number for account creation. This links your personal identity to your random chat activity and creates a privacy vulnerability. Genzigs requires zero personal information.
Problem #2: Expensive Gem System
Azar's virtual currency system encourages constant spending. Gems cost real money and are consumed by features, gifts, and extended chat. Regular users spend $20-50+/month. Genzigs has no virtual currency — everything is free.
Problem #3: App-Only (No Web Version)
Azar has no web version — you must download the app. This limits desktop usage and requires storage space. Genzigs works in any browser on any device — no downloads ever needed.
Problem #4: Video-Only Format
Azar is video-focused with limited text capabilities. Camera access is required, exposing your identity to strangers. Genzigs is text-first with complete visual anonymity.
Problem #5: No Reconnect Feature
When an Azar video call ends, that person is gone. Genzigs's reconnect feature lets you save and continue great connections.
